My Internship at

The Goessling Lab

A major part of my SSP was my internship at the Goessling Lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital. I worked as a laboratory assistant studying the impact of Estrogen on the liver using Zebrafish as a model.

Blind Sorting and Imaging

I sorted and imaged fish based on observable indicators of health to help my mentors determine the maximum tolerable capacity for Estrogen.

The Confocal Microscope

Another major part of my work was using the confocal microscope. The confocal is a powerful tool that can take 3d scans of the Zebrafish at 40x magnification. I used it to image the Biliary Epithelial Cells (BECs) of the Zebrafish to evaluate how they had been impacted by doses of Estrogen during different stages of development. I also got to take images with multiple fluorescent pathways (for example blue blood vessels!)
